La Camaronera Goes Mobile

That’s right, folks. You heard it here first. Popular Cuban seafood restaurant, La Camaronera, is taking its show on the road. La Camaronera will not only debut its very own food truck soon but will also be a part of Miami Street Food Fest 2010!

What started as a fresh fish market in 1966 is now a counter service only restaurant dishing out some of the most delicious seafood in South Florida. The Garcia brothers opened up a fresh fish market in 1966 and then, 10 years later, fired up a deep fryer, installed some counter space and started serving up their daily catch to hungry patrons.

Good news for La Camaronera fans: the famed Pan con Minuta, among other fresh and tasty dishes, will be available on their forthcoming truck. The crispy, flaky and fresh Pan con Minuta (fried fish sandwich) is topped with chopped onions, ketchup and their homemade tartar sauce on a fresh Cuban roll. Kick it up a notch with their homemade Salsa Picante (hot sauce). This fish sandwich is not for the faint of heart: it comes complete with tail. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)

When you visit La Camaronera, don’t miss: Sopa de Cherna (grouper soup), Bollitos de Carita (black-eyed pea fritters) and Camarones Fritos (fried shrimp).

Simply Burger- and Taco-licious

Latin Burger and Taco is the latest gourmet food truck to join the First Miami Street Food Fest! The hard to miss black and pink truck is the gastronomic mobile food concept of Food Network and Univision/Galavision star Ingrid Hoffmann and her partner, Jim Heins.

Latin Burger and Taco

The Latin Burger and Taco truck roams around South Florida serving lunch, dinner and late night bites daily to the social media-savvy folks that follow Latin Burger’s frequent updates on Facebook and Twitter.

The menu, created by Hoffmann and made with the freshest ingredients, is made up of gourmet burgers and tacos, including the Latin Macho, a burger made of chorizo, chuck and sirloin, smothered in caramelized onion, Oaxaca cheese, jalapeños, and either avocadolicious sauce or red pepper mayo. Plain Janes (regular fries) get a sweet kick with Hoffman’s guachup, a guava and ketchup combination.

The price is right, too. Tacos start at just $2.95.

That sounds simply perfecto to us.

Joy to the World

gastroPod Miami

That’s right folks, Chef Jeremiah Bullfrog is bringing his gourmet kitchen on wheels, gastroPod, to the First Annual Miami Street Food Fest!

Born and raised in the county of Dade, Chef Jeremiah is the chef/owner of gastroPod, a 1962  Airstream customized with the latest in modern culinary technology. GastroPod, a gastropub (a pub that specializes in serving high-quality food) and pod (a detachable or self-contained unit like an aircraft, spacecraft, vehicle or vessel), hybrid is, according to its web site, the first mobile gourmet dining concept in Miami.

A preview of what’s on the menu: gastroPod serves up homemade beef short rib hot dogs and slider burgers stuffed with shaved pork belly, both of which are topped with Chef Jeremiah’s ‘stupid slaw.’

Believe us, it’s all stupid good.

I Scream, You Scream

Feverish Ice Cream

We all scream for ice cream! Feverish Ice Cream has officially signed on to be part of the first Miami Street Food Fest!

Feverish is more than your average ice cream truck. This eco-friendly ice cream truck is more like a party on wheels spinning tracks from local hip-hop and indie rock artists outside local bars and clubs after-hours.  The small, tricked out trucks carry a variety of healthy and vegan ice cream as well as gourmet fresh fruit bars that come from local sources and are wrapped in eco-friendly packaging. Now that’s something we can scream about.

We All Live in a Yellow Submarine

Yellow Submarine

No, this doesn’t mean a really great Beatles cover band will be performing at the First Annual Miami Street Food Fest (although we’re open to suggestions) but it does mean that Yellow Submarine has signed on to participate!

Music rules on this truck. On any given day, visitors are greeted with Lady Madonna, Imagine, Killer Queen and Original Sensation and, no, we’re not talking about the tunes blaring from the radio on the truck. The Colombian brothers that run this ship have named the sandwiches, burgers and hot dogs they serve after these classic songs.

Killer Queen

Yellow Submarine burgers and hot dogs are served “Colombian style” which basically means they are topped with crushed potato chips and their homemade sauces.

Party bonus: they accept credit cards!

Imagine all the people that will be at Miami Street Food Fest. You should be there, too!

The First Miami Street Food Fest is HERE!

Are you tired of trying to track down your favorite food trucks in Miami? Wouldn’t it be easier if they were all in the same place? Well, we’ve got great news for you, South Florida: Miami Street Food Fest is going to make your dreams come true!

Organizers are working hard to bring you an event that showcases the very best in local street food, from popular gourmet food trucks to your everyday hot dog cart.

The idea for Miami Street Food Fest was born when founder Cristina Sotolongo was reading a blog post about food trucks in Miami. She had tried to get to the different gourmet food trucks around town but had found it nearly impossible to try them all.  Thus, the idea to host an event where all the food trucks she had been dying to try were at the same place at the same time was born. The wheels to put on this street food-filled event have been in motion ever since…literally.

What you need to know about Miami Street Food Fest:

Local gourmet food trucks, street carts and street food vendors are already on board! We’ll be posting updates about the vendors participating in this event as they sign on.

If you know about a food truck or street food that you think should be included in Miami Street Food Fest, please leave us a comment with your suggestions. The more the merrier!
